Following the nationwide shelter-in-place orders to fight the spread of COVID-19, some state governments have listed certain construction sites as essential to continue operation. However, the workers on these construction sites are still expected to maintain an adequate social distance from one another. This presents all stakeholders a unique challenge: to monitor these required social distancing protocols advised by Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Given the dynamic nature of construction sites, it is critical to define and track insightful metrics over the course of construction to ensure jobsite safety. This week, OnSiteIQ released a new feature to help stakeholders monitor these safety protocols. OnSiteIQ’s 360 degree photo and video construction documentation platform combined with its AI engine allow users to monitor social distancing at two levels: the floor level and the project level.
Floor level Social Distancing
The floor level social distancing function monitors and measures worker social distancing trends on the jobsite and highlights areas with high density of workers and the highest probability of disease transmission. OnSiteIQ uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in tandem with 360 degree photo documentation to detect construction workers on the jobsite. Using another AI-based proximity quantification layer, the social distancing index is quantified and reports are generated to detail the risk to OnSiteIQ’s clients. Monitoring trends will allow all stakeholders to help trades to implement new practices to stay compliant with COVID-19 safety protocols.
Project level Social Distancing
Our 360 photo documentation platform aggregates the data across all floors and allows users to monitor social distancing trends over time. For example, the chart below shows the percentage of workers violating six feet of social distance required on a jobsite. The analysis on March 30 is ranked the best in terms of social distancing, as the number of unsafe observations (less than six feet of social distance) is the lowest in the one-month period from March 10 to April 10. This will also directly impact the risk factor OnSiteIQ is measuring throughout the project. This analysis can run over the course of the project to continuously monitor this risk factor. We are currently working closely with our clients to build indices and reports in order to make sure workers are staying safe and healthy on the jobsite and risk is controlled.
